When Lindsay first approached me about writing for Carla, I said yes because I wanted to invest in her vision: an independent platform that prioritizes writers, artists, and criticism for its own sake. At the time, multiple publications I wrote for had just been sold or were about to be, and I knew that my commitment to my craft did not protect me from corporate takeovers and changing mastheads.
